We will be electing a new Vice Chair using an online ballot that will be available to designated voters from each member organization from February 27 to March 4, 2013.  Our two candidates have provided brief introductions to themselves and a short response to the question: “In your view, what are the two most critical issues for transit wireless communications today that you think the Joint Council can help address?“.

Vote on Joint Council MOU with APTA

APTA has been assisting the Joint Council through provision of meeting rooms, equipment, and administrative support.  The proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with APTA is a means to formalize this relationship.  The draft MOU includes explicit recognition that the Joint Council will remain an independent body in governance and membership, and will continue its role as a non-advocacy organization devoted to information sharing.  The online ballot to vote on the MOU will be available to designated voters from each member organization from February 27 to March 4, 2013.  The link below shows the draft MOU circulated for comments with minor edits indicated for the final version.

Charter and Bylaws

The current Joint Council charter and bylaws were voted on by the membership during the voting period of September 26 to October 10, 2011. The pre-set threshold for ratification was 60% of the eligible voters. Each of the 117 non-Federal government organizations on the Joint Council at the beginning of the voting period were eligible to cast one ballot. A total of 71 votes were cast affirming the presented charter and bylaws, thus ratifying these documents on October 10, 2011.

Meetings

On May 6, 2012, the Joint Council met in Long Beach, CA, in conjunction with the APTA Bus and Paratransit Conference.  This meeting included a particularly critical discussion regarding the future of the Joint Council as it nears an end to funding from TRB.  Slides from the meeting with inserted discussion notes may be view here.
